seeding a movement to humanize dementia care
The Blossom
Respite Cafe & Gardens
Opening April 22nd, Earth Day
What is Blossom?
The Blossom Respite Café builds on a proven day-model program, developed by Respite for All, that has shown success in nurturing individuals with dementia through activities such as music, art, and therapeutic horticulture like gardening and sensory engagement. This comprehensive approach not only supports cognitive health but also brings joy and connection to participants.
Why do we call it a Respite Cafe?
A cafe feels like something welcoming and intimate. It’s a place to meet people, new friends, and gather. The Blossom environment will have large activity tables with beautiful Botanically themed market umbrellas. Each table may have a different activity theme for the day. Participants will be encouraged to get up and move around , engage with their neighbors and sample the days offerings. Will we serve lunch and some goodies?- absolutely!
Blossoming:
to thrive
to be radiant
to flourish
What the Blossom provides for care-givers
For care-givers- We are creating the Blossom to be a place both literally and “imaginatively” to be both a respite of the mind and a place that physically takes care of you. We will have environments made for relaxing, meeting fellow care-givers, getting the best curated information on care-giving, resources for help with care-giving, getting some work done at a “blossom works” station, or even meditating to chosen guided meditations made specifically for care-givers who are overworked and are looking for a mental get away.
What the Blossom provides for those with dementia
Participants will find a safe, structured environment filled with engaging and uplifting activities designed to enhance well-being and create meaningful connections. A place to make new friends. The Blossom will provide a multitude of activities, all respectful of a person’s humanity, their unique backgrounds, and the “place” they are that day or that hour. We will have fun, we will learn, and we will grow things!
